My friend,
It’s a joy to meet you in May and share with you the promise for this new month from Psalm 7:1 & 2,
“LORD my God, I take refuge in you; save and deliver me from all who pursue me, or they will tear me apart like a lion and rip me to pieces with no one to rescue me.”
Yes! The Lord promises to be our refuge when we are going through so much humiliation, when we go through pain of what others say and not able to take it and process it. They might be calling us all sorts of names, targeting our weaknesses, our inhibitions and they may be making fun of us or they might be bullying us, attacking our character on how we look or speak and it might hurt us and we may not be able to share it with anybody.
What do we do in this time when we feel like everybody is against us! We might feel so insecure and say that there is no one to rescue, no one to talk to, nobody is on my side! My friend, the Lord, is our refuge, waiting for us. He is always on our side but with these hurts we tend to forget Him. My friend let us not forget Him, He will deliver us from every pursuer and every criticism, every humiliation and He will heal our broken hearts and He will put us on the path to success.
‘There was a girl I knew. She used to be very talkative, the way she talked would annoy people, so nobody wanted to be with her. Even her own family, her relatives, her cousins and her friends, they didn’t want to keep on hearing how she was speaking; she was also negative in speaking. So everybody was tired of her and pushed her aside. In her teenage years she became so silent. She would not talk to anybody at all. She lost her voice, voice to speak out. She became such a silent person.’
That is what the hurt can do to our hearts. It grows in our thoughts and says that nobody loves us and nobody wants to be with us. You might be in such a position. But Proverbs 18:10 says, “The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.” Yes! You are safe under the name of God. He is your refuge. Cry to Him and Share your heart to Him and He will show you how much He values you and how much He wants to be with you.
‘Danny, a college basketball player, was neglected by his coaches due to his height. He was called little Danny because his height was 5'3’. He had to play against players who are 6 feet in height. So there was no probable way where he could score without being blocked. So even the coaches said how can you play? You are so short. But he was so passionate. Basketball was his everything. And he desperately wanted to play. He didn’t give up and kept on playing and showing his skills.
He was dribbling so fast and getting past people, nobody could touch him. Being short also helped him. He could move in a way that they could not chase him. And he was such a good scorer. The time came when he could not get neglected and got selected in the team. As he started playing the whole college would come and see. And they would shout little Danny, go Danny go and sing songs about him while he played. He became everyone’s favorite. And he was a sight of terror to the opponents. He became so famous.’
My friend, the feeling of insecurity and fear coming from humiliation, it keeps us down from our purpose. The devil attacks us through so many words. And so many things that people say who don’t know about us. But God knows about us. He will certainly use every bit of talent that He has given us for our purpose.
Give your talents into His hands. Surrender your purpose into His hands. Let Him lead you. He made the stuttering Moses speak words of power to the king of Egypt. He transformed the violent Saul's life and made him become a loving and compassionate person, running after souls.
In your weakness, His strength will be perfected. Receive Him to be your refuge. God will never let you down; He is on your side. So take refuge in Him as He wants to use you for great things. Don’t let all these worries about what people say get you down. God will help you even in this month of May.
May God be with you!
With much prayers,
Samuel Dhinakaran
